Quite a yarn: world’s largest Navajo rug comes to Winslow

WINSLOW — During the Great Depression in 1932 trader Lorenzo Hubbell Jr. had an innovative idea to create attention for his trading post in Winslow.

Hubbell foresaw the world’s largest Navajo rug as that drawing piece and commissioned Julia Joe, a well-known weaver from the tiny community of Greasewood in northern Navajo County, to bring his vision to life.
