DL1961 Doubles Down on Nostalgic Fits for Fall

Aug 23, 2023Aug 23, 2023

Functional fabrics, sustainable washes and elevated fits make up DL1961’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection.

Through its ongoing partnership with Recover and vertically integrated factory, the brand aims to redefine denim with a contemporary direction while staying true to its roots.

“DL1961 is all about making you feel your best self in your body and finding pieces that truly fit your own lifestyle and narrative without costing you your identity, style and without harming our beloved environment,” said Sarah Ahmed, DL1961 CEO and co-founder.

“The collection features a refined selection of contemporary styles that incorporates strong and functional fabrics with dynamic washes, while embracing the timelessness of vintage aesthetics,” the brand stated.

DL1961 brings back two of its popular wide-leg jeans. The Hepburn, a comfort stretch high rise comes in a vintage-inspired mid-indigo wash with an authentic worn-in look. The brand also offers a utility option with Zoie. The wide-leg jean has cargo pockets at the thigh.

The roomy fits are sit alongside new vintage-inspired styles like the low-rise Ilia Barrel, which has a waistband that sits high in the back and dips low in the front, and Drue Straight, a style designed to sit low and square on the waist. Both 100 percent cotton jeans offer a modern take on Y2K nostalgia, infused with sustainable finishes like ozone and laser and flattering fit patterns.

Also new to the collection is the Enora Straight, an ultra-high-rise cigarette fit that the brand describes as being “reminiscent of the ever-elusive perfect vintage jean.”

The women’s jeans range is complemented by midi and mini skirts, 100 percent silk tops and leather ready-to-wear which the brand said is sourced responsibly with minimal waste.

“At DL1961 we continuously study the market’s fashion trends and try to anticipate our consumer’s wants and needs before they’re even aware of what’s missing in their closet,” Ahmed said. “We understand what makes our garments move with the body, how the fabrics stimulate our senses and how best we can incorporate these pieces into our existing wardrobes—making them staples that are flexible and fashionable at the same time.”

DL1961’s F/W ’23 men’s assortment is anchored by tried-and-true bestsellers like the Nick Slim and Russell Slim Straight. Both offered in a variety of fabrics and washes, from dark indigo to vintage, light indigo. New trend-driven bottoms are the Glen wide-leg and Kurt loose straight. The jeans are “inspired by the trends of decades past and the street style of the present,” the brand stated.

Children’s styles are a balance of trends and staples as well. Straight and wide-leg jeans are key for boys and girls.

Jewel tones, delicate patchwork and coatings update girls’ denim styles. DL’s girls’ assortment also offers corduroy coordinates and an overall dress with adjustable shoulder straps. The boys’ line makes a bold statement with cobalt blue juxtaposed with neutral colors. Mixed media tops and paint splatter effects on denim add an edge to the collection.
